A fantastic night of community spirit, generosity, and entertainment was on full display at Nigel’s Place in Clara on April 18th, as locals gathered for a special Race Night in aid of Hope on Wheels.
The event, organised in support of local businessman and volunteer Michael Murphy, marks an important step ahead of his upcoming journey this May, where he will travel across Africa driving one of 11 Irish donated ambulances. This vital initiative will see the vehicles begin new lives as outreach clinics, delivering essential medical care to communities in need.
The evening proved to be a resounding success, with phenomenal support from attendees who turned out in great numbers to back this worthy cause. The atmosphere was electric throughout, reflecting the strong sense of community and shared purpose.

A sincere thank you is extended to the seven local business sponsors whose contributions helped make the event possible, McManus Pharmacy Clara, Guy & Kode Clothing Tullamore, Flynn Heat Recovery Ballycumber, Alkebaish ( Happy) Clara, Nigels Place, Clara , Taylormade Plastering Clara , Centra Vehicle Spares Ltd , Ballycumber and to the many generous prize donors. In particular, appreciation goes to Nox Hotel, Kilbeggan Races, and Long Island Barbers for their valued support.
Special recognition must be given to Nigel’s Place for hosting the event and providing an excellent spread of finger food, ensuring guests were well looked after on the night.
Entertainment was a key highlight, with music from upcoming DJ Alex keeping the energy high, while local man Peter Flanagan did a superb job as Master of Ceremonies, guiding the evening with great humour and professionalism.
This event stands as a testament to the incredible local support behind Hope on Wheels and the inspiring efforts of Michael Murphy, Tom Doyle and local volunteers. While the night itself was a major success, there is still time for those who could not attend to contribute to this wonderful cause.
Donations remain open, and every contribution will help make a meaningful difference as this life-changing initiative continues its journey.(https://idonate.ie/fundraiser/MickMurphysHopeOnWheelsFundraiser)
